Krishnagiri district is one of the evolving and developing districts in Tamilnadu. It is also a backward and a rural district which consists of innumerable illiterate villages. Hence the Government of Tamilnadu decided to concentrate more in these areas and partitioned krishnagiri from Dharmapuri district. People belonging to this district are totally illeterates. Keeping this in mind many government educational institutions have been setup in this area.
In 1994-1995 Government of Tamilnadu awarded permission to start Government College of Engineering, Bargur. The college started its efficient functioning from 09-11-1994 in Government polytechnic campus, Krishnagiri. The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has approved three full time B.E degree courses in Engineering. The expert committee appointed by the Madras University visited our college on 08-05-1995 and sanctioned a newer and better campus. Presently our college is affiliated to Anna University.
As an extension measure 50 acres of land in Madepalli village, 2km away from Bargur had been allocated for the construction of various Engineering Institutional Blocks. A sum of Rs.7.85 crores has been spent for the construction of

4) CSE block
5) Mechanical Engineering
6) Library Block
7) Hostels for boys and Girls
As a result our college started functioning at the new premises with effect from 05-07-2000.
